A Journey of Resilience and Recognition

A Journey of Resilience and Recognition

I was waiting for my son to be released from school, as I do every day, when something unexpected happened. The principal approached me with a smile. She said she wanted to nominate my son for an award the ACSA Region 6 Every Student Succeeding Award. We’ve known each other for seven years, working closely to support my son’s growth. In that moment, I felt a mix of pride, gratitude, and awe. Seven years of daily challenges, small victories, and unwavering support had led to this recognition.

My son’s journey hasn’t been easy. As a special needs student, he’s faced challenges that could have held him back. But he never gave up. Being raised by me as a single parent, he has learned to trust, to persevere, and to believe in the people who guide him. Despite personal hardships, he has grown academically, socially, and emotionally. Every small milestone every new word, every moment of confidence was hard-won, yet celebrated.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of the school team. Teachers, therapists, support staff, and administrators worked together with patience, creativity, and dedication to help him succeed. Each person contributed to creating an environment where he could learn, feel safe, and thrive.

And then came the recognition. Being chosen for the ACSA Region 6 Every Student Succeeding Award isn’t just about an honor. It’s about acknowledging his journey every challenge overcome, every moment of growth, and the power of belief. It’s about celebrating resilience, determination, and the community that made it possible.

As a father, I couldn’t be prouder. This award represents not just my son’s courage, but also the dedication of the teachers, therapists, and staff who believed in him every step of the way. It’s a reminder that when a child is supported, encouraged, and believed in, incredible things can happen.

This is more than a story of resilience. It’s a story of recognition, teamwork, and triumph. Every student has the potential to succeed, and every effort to support them matters. Today, we celebrate that journey.
